Systems to support your goals

“You do not rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems.” - James Clear

I’ve had some big, audacious goals for this business. I thought this little bit of self-granted maternity leave I’m on would be a perfect time to get a lot done. My husband has twelve weeks of paternity leave and I wanted to make progress while we were all home enjoying each other.

Let me tell you - four weeks into having our sweet baby with us, and a third of my husband’s leave, and I haven’t moved the needle.

I realized that my system for getting work done is not in place. You see, I rely on a few systems: the Bottom Line Budget, Meal Planning, and a Clean House system (yep, a system for how to keep my house clean), amongst others.

During these last four weeks of having a newborn, we’ve managed to eat well, have a clean home, and continue to spend money in the way that aligns with our values and goals. Again, there are systems in place for these things! What I haven’t had during my little period of leave is a system for working — growing my business, in particular.

Without a system in place to reach my goals, I'm not working towards them. And, because I’m not making progress, my confidence gets rocked. I’m feeling unmotivated. I’ve noticed this is true for me whether its goals for my business, for my own health, or for accomplishing things with my family. The more I don’t work towards my goals, the harder it gets to have momentum to start.

James Clear’s quote really resonates with me because I’m seeing that it doesn’t matter how big my goals are – if I don’t have something in place to support them, I won’t be able to reach them. I’m ready to start this new week with a strong system in place so that my goals are in reach.

Do you have systems in place for accomplishing goals and tasks? What works for you?
